One of the reasons I do my New Music Friday every week is because now and then I find an artist that it feels like everyone kept a secret from me.

Boards of Canada is a group that has been around for a long time at this point - going on 30 years. Their style of sampled documentaries, television programs, with a mix of downtempo synth beats is something that pleases my brain.

When I first heard the track Father And Son from this album, I was reminded of John Boswell/melodysheep and his collection Symphony of Science. I'm not sure if there's any actual influence relationship there, but the style is very familiar.

When I'm trying to get work done, I'll often put on albums from Lofi Girl because the focus on melodies and beats help me focus. BoC falls into that category for me, which means their albums have frequently been the background to my work meetings for the past few months.

This album prompted me to go back into BoC's catalog and explore their sound more, and only added more of their records to my collection.
